As Apple Pay rolled out today, people have been anxiously waiting to see what bumps there would be in the road. Though the rollout was fairly successful, there were still a few problems that need to be fixed quickly if the app is going to be successful. But the real question is whether or not your business should start accepting Apple Pay.
Problems with Apple Pay
The biggest problem with Apple Pay is the lack of network. Only a few companies are going to be accepting the pay system right away, though they are large companies like McDonald’s, Walgreens, and Whole Foods. The other major problem is that not all cards can be used on Apple Pay, according to the Wall Street Journal. Store credit cards aren’t part of the system right now, so you wouldn’t be able to use a Kohls Charge Card or a Target Red Card on Apple Pay, for example. Without the backing of larger retailers, the Apple Pay system won’t be able to work for everyone. The biggest problem that most retailers see with the system is that it is exclusive. That means only people with an iPhone can use it, leaving out all the other people who own phones from other networks. A system that is compatible with Android, Windows, and other phones is likely to have the most success.
Switching your business to mobile pay
The truth is that Apple pay is just another way to push mobile pay. We do everything with our smartphones, which is why it just makes sense that you could pay for everything with your smartphone as well. Of course, the problem of what to do when your phone dies hasn’t quite been addressed, but most people charge their phone nightly anyway. As a business owner, you should constantly be adapting to smartphone technology, as it will help your business succeed. Accepting mobile payments from a bunch of different platforms certainly can’t hurt your profits, and it will help you identify with the younger, more tech-savvy generation.
On top of that, if you market through smartphones, you’ll be able to bring in more business. An automated texting platform that allows for two-way texting communication is just the beginning of things you can do to reach your customers through their smartphones. People who are tying their money to their smartphones are just giving themselves another reason to constantly have their phone out or within close reach. This means when you send a text, you can expect that message to be received even faster than before. Whether or not Apple Pay is going to be a huge hit, the world is definitely beginning to transfer to a mindset of mobile payments, so you should get on board.
