Everyone using texting: your business should text too
Scott Navratil

Last night, I was sitting there thinking about what life would be like without cell phones. I was thinking about how I wouldn’t have to fight for the attention of those around me and wouldn’t constantly feel like I have to check my text messages. It would be so much simpler.

But at the same time, I wouldn’t be able to constantly check messages or communicate whenever I want. Even if those things seem like sometimes they get in the way, they are really better than anyone could have even imagined a hundred years ago!

I know I can more easily communicate with everyone around me and never worry about someone getting lost. A text is as easy as one, two, three, and that makes my life way easier. No more wasting time talking for 15 minutes on the phone before getting to the point of why you called. Just send the info really quickly!

Almost all adults use cell phones now

Pew did a recent study where they interviewed 2,252 adults over the age of 18 with telephone interviews in both English and Spanish. The study concluded that over 91 percent of adults own cell phones. Of those, 81 percent use it to send and receive text messages. Now you understand why it is so important as a small business to take advantage of the cell phone and texting market that has been largely untapped.

Moving from email marketing to texting marketing

The Pew study also found that only 52% of people with cell phones receive email to their phones. That means that if you are focusing on email marketing, you will only reach about half of your audience within minutes. You will have to wait for everyone else to get back home to their computer, boot up, and check their email. According to Forbes, “mobile is no longer an afterthought and should instead be a forethought.” Before you start focusing on computer-related advertising techniques, maybe you should try a texting campaign.

Advertising techniques with texting

If you have never texted customers before, the best way to get started is with a deal of some sort. Offer a 10% discount or a buy-one-get-one-free coupon. There is no better way to keep your customers satisfied than by giving them a deal for being so loyal. It is also a good way to get customers signed up for your service. If they know they will get a deal for signing up, they will likely have no problem with it! Get started with some sort of coupon, and you’ll end up doing great.
